When servicing HP laser printers you may be required to access the service menu. Service access mode was put in place to keep people from disrupting printer settings.

The Service Menu is intended for repair technicians and generally includes options like

• Clearing the event log

• Changing the maintenance count

• Maintenance count

• Change serial number

• Change page count

• Cold reset paper

• More

In the interest of time, we are going to divide the tutorial into two types of printers.

1. Older version Pre-Futuresmart firmware like the 2300 4200 4250 4350 P4015 etc

2. New version Post-Futuresmart firmware like the M604 M605 M606 etc

Pre Futuresmart Firmware - P4014 p1015 P4545 HP Laser Printers

The process is similar across all printers

The SERVICE menu is PIN-protected for added security. Only authorized service people have access to the SERVICE menu, When you select SERVICE from the list of menus, the product prompts you to enter an eight-digit PIN number.

• The PIN for the HP Laser Jet P4014 models is 05401408

• The PIN for the HP LaserJet P4015 models is 05401508.

• The PIN for the HP LaserJet P4515 models is 05451508.

1. Press Menu

2. Press the down arrow v to highlight SERVICE, and then press OK.

3. Enter the PIN using the alphanumeric keypad.

4. Press OK to enter the PIN and open the SERVICE menu.

The following menu items appear in the SERVICE menu:

• CLEAR EVENT LOG: Use this item to clear the product event log

• CLEAR BOOTLOADER PASSWORD: Use this item to clear the password that was set to prevent someone from performing an unauthorized cold reset on the product.

• TOTAL PAGE COUNT: After replacing the formatter, use this item to reset the page count so that the figure continues to represent the page count for the product engine.

• REFURBISH CYCLE COUNT: Use this item to record the page count when the product was refurbished.

• MAINTENANCE COUNT Use this item to set the number of pages that have been printed since the last maintenance kit was installed or the total number of pages that have been printed on the product if a maintenance kit has not yet been installed.

• MAINTENANCE INTERVAL: Use this item to specify the number of pages that can be printed before a maintenance kit message appears on the control panel to indicate that a maintenance kit is required.

• SERIAL NUMBER After replacing the formatter, use this item to reset the product serial number

• SERVICE ID

• COLD RESET PAPER

The process is similar across all Futuresmart firmware printers

Open the service menu from a touchscreen control panel 1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe (right), and then touch the Support Tools item. 2. Touch the Service menu item. 3. Enter the service personal identification number (PIN) for this printer:

NOTE: Make sure that the Service Access Code displays in the access type area. TIP: For a small touchscreen printer, touch the Access Code dialog box to display a virtual 10-key keypad.

4. Touch the Sign In button. Open the service menu from a LCD control panel 1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, use the down arrow v button to select the Print menu. 2. Use the right arrow button to scroll to and select the Support Tools menu, and then press the OK button

3. Use the down arrow v button to scroll to and select the Service menu, and then press the OK button. 4. Use the down arrow v button to scroll to Service, and then press the OK button. 5. Use the 10-key keypad to enter the following service access code for the printer: NOTE: After entering the PIN, press the OK button.

• O5060717 (M607/M608/M609)

Review and select the option from the menu items appear in the Service menu:

NOTE: For touchscreen printers, touch an item to navigate to sub-menus. For LCD printers, use the arrow buttons and the OK button to navigate to sub-menus.
