Improper Fusing After Fuser Assembly Replacement
The HP LaserJet’s 4250 4300 4350, P4014 P4015 P4515 and the M601/M602/M603 can, at times after fuser replacement, exhibit issues with improper fusing.
The fuser in all laser-based devices uses heat and pressure to “melt” the plastic particles of the toner into the media (paper). If sufficient heat is not applied, the toner will not adhere to the paper properly, causing image quality issues.
This especially occurs on thicker media such as envelopes or letter head. Sometimes, just a simple toner cartridge replacement can resolve the issue. In most cases though, it is related to improper heat temperature of the fuser assembly.

In the listed above printers, the heating element temperature can be adjusted using the following menu access directions: HP LaserJet 4250 4350; Approach the printer control panel. Press the “Menu” key >;“Configure Device” >; “Print Quality” >; “Fuser Modes” >; “Plain Paper” (if the issue is occurring on that type of media).
The following selections are available in this menu: “Normal”, “High 1”, “High 2”, “Low 1” and “Low 2”. Select one of the “High” temperature settings to ensure proper fusing.
The HP P4014 P4015 P4515 laser printer
The HP P4014 P4015 P4515 laser printer uses a similar strategy. To access the P40XX series Fuser Mode menu perform the following: Approach the printer control panel. Press “Menu” >; “Configure Device” >; “Print Quality” >; “Fuser Modes”. The following selections in this menu are: “Normal”, “Light 1”, “Light 2”, “Heavy”. The “Heavy” setting is best for thicker or heavier card stock.
HP LaserJet Pro M600 M601 M602 M603
The fusing issue can also occur in the HP LaserJet Pro M600 M601 M602 M603 series. Especially after a firmware update. The latest firmware (as of May 2019) is version 2309010_581425. Date code Jan 1 2019. The M6XX series utilizes a slightly different set of key strokes to make this adjustment.
The following applies to the HP M601 M602 M603 printers: Approach the printer control panel. From the “Ready” mode, press “Menu” >; “Administration” >; “General Settings” >; “Print Quality” >; “Adjust Paper Types” >; “Print Mode”.
