HP Enterprise vs. Managed Models Equivalency Guide

Updated: Dec 17, 2025

If you manage a fleet of HP printers, you’ve likely encountered the distinction between their "Enterprise" and "Managed" lines. On the surface, they often look identical, leading to confusion about compatibility, parts, and capabilities.

HP frequently releases corresponding Managed models alongside their Enterprise series.

While these Managed units typically share the engine components and sub assemblies like fusers as their Enterprise counterparts, they often feature enhanced security software and hardware modifications, such as locking front doors.

Understanding the Difference: Enterprise vs. Managed

When HP introduces a new Enterprise series, they almost always release corresponding Managed models.

It’s important to know that these counterparts generally share the same chassis and the same print engine components. However, "Managed" models are specifically tailored for contractual print environments (MPS) and typically offer distinct advantages:

  • Enhanced Features: They usually come with specialized software for improved security and usage tracking.

  • Hardware Additions: Managed models often feature physical security upgrades, such as locking front doors to protect supplies.

  • Internal Variations: Despite sharing an engine, they may utilize different formatters, maintenance kits, and toner supplies than their Enterprise equivalents.

A Note on Hardware Security (TPM)

Security is a top priority for most IT departments today. In our guide, we have specifically highlighted models that include a standard Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

The TPM chip provides crucial, hardware-level security capabilities, adding an extra layer of protection for device credentials and data. In the equivalency table below, any model marked in BOLD indicates the standard presence of a TPM chip.

Please note that internal components—including formatters, maintenance kits, and supplies—may vary between versions.
