Will Non-OEM Printer Parts Void My New Printer Warranty?

Many people mistakenly believe that they must use manufacturer-approved printer parts so as not to void their warranty. The printer manufacturers might want you to believe this but nothing is further from the truth. Non-OEM, printer replacement parts will not void your new printer’s warranty.

Non-original equipment manufacturer printer parts save your company money and are available for a variety of laser printers, including HP, Lexmark, Samsung, Brother and other brands. Using non-OEM printer parts will not void your laser printer’s warranty.

In fact many OEM printer manufactures get printer parts from Metrofuser to repair new printers under warranty.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Improvement Act of 1975 states that it is illegal for a manufacturer to prevent you from using a non-OEM direct part or component within your laser printer. You can install and use any compatible non-OEM part, including store brand, ETN, and remanufactured. You can also use compatible printer parts from online outlets and online auction outlets without your printer’s warranty being deemed void.

Recommendations

Laser printer manufacturers, as well as other printer type manufacturers, recommend you use their parts, but it is only a recommendation. Non-OEM printer parts are usually equal to or higher in quality than OEM parts. Non-OEM printer parts also carry warranties, and you can return the printer parts to the store, outlet or service you purchased the printer parts from if a problem occurs.

Product Selection

When purchasing non-OEM parts, make sure the printer parts are for your laser printer. Read the part’s technical specifications to check that the printer part is compatible with your printer’s brand and model number. Using the wrong part can result in the part not working or not working properly. Incorrect printer parts can also damage your laser printer’s internal components. Also, take note of the non-OEM part seller’s return policy and if the company charges for returning a faulty part or one which you ordered incorrectly.
