The 59 series of error codes indicates a motor related failure of some kind in these model printers and although HP publishes a Troubleshooting Manual (provide download link here), it fails to list any variants of this error code.

Included here are all the variations of the 59 error code and the causes for each one.

59.xx.00 – This indicates a problem related to the tray 2 lift motor. To resolve this error, first remove the tray two cassette and check the gear and the one-quarter gear at the rear left side of the tray 2 cassette.

Ensure both spin/move freely. Check the lifter gear that mates with these gears inside the rear left corner of the printer. If any work has previously/recently been performed on this printer, ensure the connection at J206 on the DC Controller is secure and that its wires are not pinched or damaged.

If these gears and the J206 connection look to be ok, replace the lifter drive assembly (RM2-6744). If replacing the lifter drive assembly does not resolve the error, replace the DC Controller PCB (RM2-9491 or RM2-9494 depending on which model printer you have).

59.xx.30 or 59.xx.40 – This indicates a problem related to the fuser motor. If you have access to another fuser (used or already in service), install it in the printer and see if it resolves the error.

If any work has previously/recently been performed on this printer, ensure the connection at J204 on the DC Controller is secure and that its wires are not pinched or damaged. If the J204 connection looks to be ok, replace the fuser drive assembly (RM2-6763). If the error still persists, replace the DC Controller PCB (RM2-9491 or RM2-9494 depending on which model printer you have).

59.xx.50 or 59.xx.60 – This indicates a problem with the drum motor. If you have access to another toner cartridge, install it and see if it resolves the error. If any work has

previously/recently been performed on this printer, ensure the connection at J203 on the DC Controller is secure and that its wires are not pinched or damaged. If the J203 connection looks to be ok, run the drum motor component test

(Support Tools > Troubleshooting > Diagnostic Tests > Component Test > Drum Motor).

If you cannot hear the drum motor spinning or the printer reports a failure when running the drum motor component test, replace the drum motor (RM2-9316). If replacing the drum motor does not resolve the error, replace the DC Controller PCB (RM2-9491 or RM2-9494 depending on which model printer you have).
